Advanced Lapping Day – July 30th, 2015

Advanced Lapping Day 7-30-15 00230 July 2015 Kent, WA – This day is set aside to give those that have been thru the ProFormance School or those that just want to get more seat time in their car a chance to make laps on the road course. Those that came out today fit that description pretty well. If this look at those that took advantage of this day has your car in mind give the ProFormance web site for an upcoming date.

Cantrell Motorsports Track Day At Pacific Raceways

Cantrell Motorsports 7-29-15 06529 July 2015 Kent, WA – The 2.25mi. track at Pacific Raceways hosts many forms of racing, from multi-speed peddle power to full blown open wheel race cars with many classes in between.  At any one of these events you never know what type of car may show up and sometimes you will be surprised at who may be driving the car.

Such is the case today for the Cantrell Motorsports day at Pacific Raceways.  Preparing to take to the track a British A/C Cobra and i’s right hand drive position of which grabs your attention right away.

Further checking revealed that the driver of that car is two time Indy champ Arie Luyendyk. What a treat to meet the legends of the past that in your youth were the heroes you watched on the television.

Not 100% sure but all indications point to testing a car for another race team that will run it and no better way to tell how well it will work then testing by someone who knows… Super cool.

For all those attending the Cantrell Motorsports day that watched or even got to meet Arie what a thrill to see him here at Pacific Raceways this day.

Swift Tools ET Series Event #9 At Pacific Raceways

Swift Tool ET Series #9 7-25-15 04825 July 2015 Kent, WA – This Saturday morning for the Swift Tool event started out with a couple of laps around Pacific Raceways legendary 2.25 mile track by the local Porsche club as they embark on a trip to visit Porsche clubs around the west coast. Would like to have learned more of the details but as most of the info is held person to person as to not draw a crowd to what they are doing until they are ready to let everyone know.  Good Luck and have a safe journey.

As the Porsche club drove off the property the drag racers came pouring in for the Swift Tool event. An overnight pouring of rain had soaked everything and the current conditions are not to favorable for quick drying and with the chance for more rain the dilemma of to run or not to run became a hard choice for drag strip manager Ed Garfield.

Swift Tool ET Series #9 7-25-15 025

Checking the radar like everyone else that has that smart phone capability the decision to run got the drag crew into action to dry the track. With the help of a bunch of street tired cars and trucks lapping the shutdown portion of the track the dampness that prevents racing was eliminated and racing got underway though a few Mother Nature induced hours later then the scheduled time.

This great track work by the drag staff on the track surface had Australian native Steven Ham primed to do some more testing with his alcohol funny car prior to the national event coming to Pacific Raceways in a few weeks. By the looks of the passes made he is right in the mix and a good shot at going all the way.

A break in the Swift Tool events till after the Nationals, see you then.

2015 Goodguys NW Nationals Drags

Good Guys 7-24-15 19224 July 2015 Kent, WA – Bringing back and keeping the tradition of the oldies alive the 25th Annual Good Guys Northwest Nationals event mixes a massive car show at the Puyallup Fairgrounds and drag racing at Pacific Raceways.

With a gap in the engine starting time and the start of drag racing Jim Ronan had the chance to get some more seat time in his wheel stander. Getting a machine like this to do what you want it to do is a fine balance, most of which comes from the seat of your pants and that balance point of the truck in which you can see in Breann’s pictures. Little by little Jim is getting it down and down the track working towards the ticket to do it for real, “Keep It Up”.

Good Guys 7-24-15 068b

After a few delay’s for brief sprinkles the show went on and the stands filled with plenty of oldies watcher’s reliving the days when this was the action on the drag strip.

This once a year event will bring so many different types of old race and show cars that for the most part sit protected and covered to protect their show condition. Great time watching all this action and look forward to next year’s event, till then keep this history alive.

10th Annual Women’s Day At Pacific Raceways – July 23rd, 2015

10th Annual Women's Day 7-23-15 50223 July 2015 Kent, WA – This day was for the women driver’s to enjoy the thrill of pushing their cars as fast as they dare in a safe manner and under control. Some were very experienced, and some were novices.

Those novice drivers are put thru a braking exercise to find the threshold of the brakes, once learned and after a little class room instruction, they are out on the track with the rest of the women with a grin on their face that was seen plainly under the helmets.

BMW, Porsche, Jaguar, Mini Cooper, Corvette, quite a range of cars that these women were having fun running the 2.25 mile track at Pacific Raceways.

For Don Kitch and those that are involved in putting this event together great job and that includes the safety and corner workers who watch over those on the track. Great time watching these ladies progress over the day to what I think surprised some of the driver’s on what they were really made of and how far they could push themselves. I look forward to the next time they are at the track.

Westbay Bracket Weekend At Bremerton Raceway

Jr.#13 and CC #2 and Nostalgia Hot Rod j 7-18-15 34717-19 July 2015 Bremerton, WA – It was a full weekend at Bremerton Raceway – the staging lanes were filled with 16 classes on the docket for Saturday and 7 on Sunday; it made for an action filled couple of days.

A test and tune on Friday night for those early runners for the weekend’s races to started things off. Roll into Saturday morning and the real reason everyone was here, race time. The weather was just plain hot as the sun baked everyone to over 90 degrees and sent all seeking shade where they could find it. There was no cooling off until the sun was well set and the same was predicted for Sunday.  It’s hard to get good sleep in this weather.

Sunday morning greeted everyone with the temps in the mid 70’s and climbing. This again had everyone seeking hydration and shade whenever possible, it was just plain hot but it beats the rain that everyone wants.  If a downpour had come no one would have objected, there was just a big sprinkler for all to run thru.

There is full event coverage by Seeitimagery – Four Albums of images are now available, the links to the album are just below – or click here for a list of all 2015 Events at Bremerton Raceway.

35th Anniversary Mustang Roundup At Pacific Raceways

35th Anniversary Mustang Roundup 7-16-15 46516 July 2015 Kent, WA – Short of a pure car show you will not find a wider selection of this American classic. These pony’s go the range of their years – 1960’s to the 2015’s of today.

In their yearly visit to Pacific Raceways 2.25 mile track the cars enjoy the power that has been built into it by the owner and the power that now comes right off the assembly line. Add in the Roush and other aftermarket folks that make these new cars really handle more like a race car then a pure street car.

Pretty cool taking 40 and 50 year old classics and making them handle as if it just came from the factory with all the latest bells and whistles. Yes you will see more highly modified Mustang’s at the car shows but this classic can be built for “show or go” and look good doing either one.

It was great day for those that enjoy seeing the Mustang’s run like the horse in the first advertisement ads on TV.

Motocross Practice At Pacific Raceways

MX Practice 7-15-15 47315 July 2015 Kent, WA – It was another mid-week night of practice in advance of the Friday night series at the MX track at Pacific Raceways. These practice sessions prove to be very beneficial to those who take advantage of them.

As in any motorsports, seat time is the most important of the preps that you can do to improve yourself as a rider. Young or old makes little difference, seat time is seat time and the more you do it the better you will get.

Come out for a mid-week romp around the moto track even if you do not take part in the race series for a good workout on your bike.

Click here for images of the session today; they are now available for purchase – thanks for your support
