Another Full Day at ProFormance Racing School

DSC_847930 Sept 2016 Kent, WA – With the “BOSS” gone with “The Heart of Racing” team the ProFormance Racing School staff of instructors carries on the program without skipping a beat. A true tribute to what Don Kitch has built into the ProFormance Racing School program.

The shift in who taught the skills parts of the school is so interchangeable, ten students got great spot on instructions to guide them thru the exercises. The best thing you can do to improve your driving skills and as some say it should be included in drivers training.

Speaking of drivers training for those young drivers check out the “BRAKES” program coming to Pacific soon. Go to Pacific’s web site for info on either program.

Lots of great images from the classes today – click here to go to the photo album.

NHRA Division Six Season Finale at Woodburn

DSC_632019 Sep 2016 Woodburn, OR – The final division race of the season no matter the location will bring those that need to protect their position in the standings, those that know with a good showing can move up in the standings and those that just love to race no matter where they are in the standings.

DSC_6158This was truly the mix for the final NHRA Northwest Division Six race held at Woodburn Dragstrip.

DSC_5113Thursday and Friday the weather could not have been better, sunny but not really hot temps. All of a sudden the smart phones started buzzing about “mother nature” and the radar picture. Just when the racing  was about to get serious the rains came and washed away Saturday.

DSC_6592With figuring done, it was planned the race could finish on Sunday in the time allotted meaning no issues. Come Sunday morning the no issues went away thanks to Mother Nature and her relentless overnight rain. So much rain fell that it lifted the rubber from the track surface forcing the track and D-6 crew to scrape and re-prep the track. Thanks “Mother Nature”.

DSC_5714Darkness was the deciding factor now and they ran all that could be run till dark, and then it was on to Monday.

On to Monday morning and again the weather played a part as a heavy dew covered everything not protected from it along with pretty dense fog obstructing your view.  The crew got the rest of the event done in just a few hours even with later start, those few hours that were taken away by the weather showed that the hard work and dedication by the Woodburn and D-6 crews can race ready a track surface no matter the issue.

A big thanks to Jay and Joey for their help and answers, it was always a good time at their track. For a list of the winner’s visit the D-6 web site.

Over 1,200 images are now available, many from some new vantage points.  Click here to go to the event album – there are a total of five albums, organized by day to make it easier.  CLICK HERE.

AM Skills, Novice HP, PM Lapping at ProFormance Racing School

DSC_406108 September 2016 Kent, WA – As mentioned in earlier posts the reason for going thru the ProFormance Racing School are many. The reason is really not the matter; it’s the fact that you are finally doing it. Spread apart by more than fifty years of production a pair of Mustangs were in the class today.

DSC_4065Both sounded like mean machines as they warmed up their motors getting ready to start the track portion of the school. The difference in the two started to show in the “braking”, non-ABS vs. ABS. The general thought is to bring a whole bunch of horsepower under the hood to go fast around the track, when in reality you need very good brakes more than anything else.

DSC_4197Most all cars can get up to a pretty good clip but slowing them down to get around the twists and turns of the track is way more important. Though the ’65 Mustang looks like it just came off the production line the fact that no ABS on the car did it in using up the brakes till the failing point. Bummer.

Meanwhile the GM’s Mustang just keeps getting faster and faster lap times as he learns the “line” around the track. A lot of hot rod heads are upgrading the “old” iron to modern day horsepower can level the playing field by adding an ABS system to their ride and stay side by side around the track with the current high horsepower produced in today’s autos.
