PGP Amateur Race At Pacific Raceways – Dec 27th, 2014

Amataur Race Series 12-27-14 37627 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – The last Saturday of 2014 put the Amateur drivers around the PGP course. Mother Nature provided the rain part of the “Rain or Shine” operation of the kart track.

Driving in the rain at speed in the most part is helped by your tires and its tread, take away that tread and the traction you had is gone. In a kart it is seat of the pants driving and trusting your instinct on how far you can push the traction you have. I have to think the knowledge you gain from the kart translates to the bigger machines like in Autocross or pure Road Racing. The rain or shine opportunity in the karts are a great way to learn how to control what you have under you no matter what it is.

When it was over Mateo Deleon was the winner, followed by David Cheng in second place, and Angelique Brouard came in third.

Check the PGP web site for info for dates and operating hours.

Fat Santa Race At Pacific Raceways

Fat Santa Race 12-21-14 00821 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – For those that participate in the rental kart racing at PGP the Fat Santa Race throws a change both for the racer and the course. The ability to change the configuration of the track to give the racers a challenge for this event is just a part of the race. The regular 190 pound race minimum weight is boosted to 250 pounds, hence the Fat Santa name.

No one in a Santa suit here as the drag on the racer is already to the point of slowing them down from their normal times at 190 lbs. Three heats on three layouts comprise the race for points for this race in the series. Weigh-ins after each heat keeps all on an equal playing field with one entrant packing an extra 80 lbs. each race.

A.J. Johnston, Kyle Gaston and Benjamin Pedersen graced the podium for this event. PGP runs rain or shine, you should check there web site for upcoming events.

Fall Moto GP Series At Pacific Raceways – Dec 13th, 2014

Fall Moto GP Series 12-13-14 11413 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – Repetitive action generally means you are going to get better at what you are doing. In the case of the GP Series it does not apply as Lance keeps the course in a different pattern for these events. Changing direction you go is not the only change you will encounter running the series.

In thru the trees, over and around hills and them logs which just a single one posed quite troublesome getting hung up on it and cutting into your lap times and position hard. How do you practice for this stuff?

The best way has to be coming out and running these events and starting out by being in good physical condition. As one rider says “my skills are not bad, but I am out of shape” and this will test you to the max as far as conditioning is concerned. As in any sport you have to be in shape to pre-form at your best level.

I have to think that the more gear you put on your body to protect it from harm the more being in shape comes into play. The next race is on the third day of the new year (Jan 3rd) so it will test your holiday layoff. See you next year. GO- HAWKS !!!

Winter Practice Tree Series At Pacific Raceways

Winter Practice Tree Series 12-13-14 00613 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – From Pacific’s tower to the TMS building and moving on now to The Sports Page, the Practice Tree Series has grown over the years. What started with coffee and doughnuts now has good food and adult beverages while you pair off on the tree.

The series has grown from a day after Thanksgiving idea by Pacific Raceways General Manager, and growing now is the amount of participants each year for the event. As in any series there will be a winner in the end and to this end comes a prize. This season’s winner will receive a trip for two to Los Vegas!

Now that is some trophy for having good reactions to the tree. Plenty of chances to get in the race, check Pacific’s web site for information

10th Annual NW Toy Run At Pacific Raceways

10th Annual NW Toy Run 12-7-14 14307 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – This year’s Toy Run has to be the best ever. Mother Nature blessed all with sunny skies and the slight chill in the air was easily handled. When the gates opened at 10:00 am the cars started in with a range that if you named a car or make it came in.

With the Toys for Tots as the main draw and a car show for parking formed perfect picture taking as many had their cameras. With the steady stream of folks dropping off toys the boxes filled up a pair of trucks.

Greeting many of those givers were a number of elves in green, a military man and Tacoma Royalty passing gifts to the helpers and posing for pictures. ProFormance instructors Don and Curtis showed those entrusted in a “lead/follow” around Pacific’s 2.25mi. road course seeing and experiencing for them self what it is like.

Feeding that many people Big Food had them covered with food and drink with many sitting in the sunny stands. We do know the numbers for the toys and cash donations but from what I saw it has to be the best turnout ever. Thanks to all who helped.

High Performance Sport Driving Day – Dec 6th, 2014

High Performance Sport Driving Day 12-6-14 17106 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – We’ve said in a previous post about driving in the rain: there is an art to it. Today was the perfect test for that practice. On and off rain has kept the surface covered with moisture. Unless you had rain tires made for the rain your traction gained by power had a fine line and centrifugal force is something you do not want push, thus comes the “ART”.

Taking in the action perched atop the light pole at the head of the lanes for the drag-strip a bald eagle shook off the rain and watched the lapping cars. Quite a sight. The next event High Performance Sport Driving Day is 12-20-14 weather is unknown, but weather this time of year has quite a range, see you then.

Bremerton Raceway Winner’s Banquet

Bremerton Raceway Banquit 12-6-14 00106 Dec 2014 Bremerton, WA – This season’s banquet had three phases, food, awards, and then questions. Great food prepared by many started the night. I have to admit that many choices of food can fill your plate before the end of the line. As the food vanished the night moved on to the main reason for everyone being there, to hand out the well-earned awards.

Mixed in-between door prizes kept everyone looking at their tickets, as some prizes were very timely for racing operations. The end of the night brought the questions about Bremerton’s next season as developers are changing the landscape. With a lot of unknowns with too many items the season is now how to get around it and have a season. Keep up with Bremerton’s web site for more information.
