Winter Practice Tree Series At Pacific Raceways

13 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – From Pacific’s tower to the TMS building and moving on now to The Sports Page, the Practice Tree Series has grown over the years. What started with coffee and doughnuts now has good food and adult beverages while you pair off on the tree.

The series has grown from a day after Thanksgiving idea by Pacific Raceways General Manager, and growing now is the amount of participants each year for the event. As in any series there will be a winner in the end and to this end comes a prize. This season’s winner will receive a trip for two to Los Vegas!

Now that is some trophy for having good reactions to the tree. Plenty of chances to get in the race, check Pacific’s web site for information

10th Annual NW Toy Run At Pacific Raceways

07 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – This year’s Toy Run has to be the best ever. Mother Nature blessed all with sunny skies and the slight chill in the air was easily handled. When the gates opened at 10:00 am the cars started in with a range that if you named a car or make it came in.

With the Toys for Tots as the main draw and a car show for parking formed perfect picture taking as many had their cameras. With the steady stream of folks dropping off toys the boxes filled up a pair of trucks.

Greeting many of those givers were a number of elves in green, a military man and Tacoma Royalty passing gifts to the helpers and posing for pictures. ProFormance instructors Don and Curtis showed those entrusted in a “lead/follow” around Pacific’s 2.25mi. road course seeing and experiencing for them self what it is like.

Feeding that many people Big Food had them covered with food and drink with many sitting in the sunny stands. We do know the numbers for the toys and cash donations but from what I saw it has to be the best turnout ever. Thanks to all who helped.

High Performance Sport Driving Day – Dec 6th, 2014

06 Dec 2014 Kent, WA – We’ve said in a previous post about driving in the rain: there is an art to it. Today was the perfect test for that practice. On and off rain has kept the surface covered with moisture. Unless you had rain tires made for the rain your traction gained by power had a fine line and centrifugal force is something you do not want push, thus comes the “ART”.

Taking in the action perched atop the light pole at the head of the lanes for the drag-strip a bald eagle shook off the rain and watched the lapping cars. Quite a sight. The next event High Performance Sport Driving Day is 12-20-14 weather is unknown, but weather this time of year has quite a range, see you then.

Bremerton Raceway Winner’s Banquet

06 Dec 2014 Bremerton, WA – This season’s banquet had three phases, food, awards, and then questions. Great food prepared by many started the night. I have to admit that many choices of food can fill your plate before the end of the line. As the food vanished the night moved on to the main reason for everyone being there, to hand out the well-earned awards.

Mixed in-between door prizes kept everyone looking at their tickets, as some prizes were very timely for racing operations. The end of the night brought the questions about Bremerton’s next season as developers are changing the landscape. With a lot of unknowns with too many items the season is now how to get around it and have a season. Keep up with Bremerton’s web site for more information.

Fall Moto GP Series At Pacific Raceways – Nov 29th, 2014

29 Nov 2014 Kent, WA – The Fall Moto GP course is challenging enough even for the experienced rider: manmade and laid out to test your skills, all this under perfect weather conditions. Now put mother- nature in the mix and the task at hand and its difficulty are greatly increased. The day before saw rain, rain and more rain covering all the low areas with pools of water, then overnight a couple inches of snow were added to the mix.

An extra layer under the riding gear was a must to combat the wind- blown snow and chill in the air as the riders began there moto. As in any motorized traffic in snow it does not take long to turn it into slop and traction goes off the charts when you get out of the groove. Running in the opposite direction this moto throws out the window what you learned when you ran in the last race.

A 12 inch deep waterhole saw many a rider on their back wheel across the 10′ to 12′ surface not much unlike a snow-machine across water. Who knows what the weather will be like for the Dec. 13th event but when you pit man against mother- nature it can be a crapshoot. Check Pacific’s web site for the info

Turkey Drive 3-Hour Enduro At Pacific Raceways

23 Nov 2014 Kent, WA – Endurance racing has a number of ways to run. It can be number of laps, a number of miles or an amount of time. For the Turkey Drive put on by PGP Motorsports Park this was a 3-Hour time limit for the race.

Sixteen teams of drivers with pit stops to change drivers and re-fuel makes for some fun on the clock. All riders are required to weigh 190lbs, that evens the playing field and at each driver change a change of cart number for their team, so no one has the same cart for the race as there are slight differences in the equally built carts that PGP uses.

Now factor in the weather. One could not put together such a wide swing in driving conditions. Pouring down rain greeted everyone for the drivers meeting and the first part of the event slowly changed to full sunshine. With a best lap time of 98.728 in the sunshine to a 1:51.520 in the pouring rain tested the rider’s skills of kart driving. High Performance Sport Driving Day – Nov 22, 2014

22 Nov 2014 Kent, WA – Want to go fast on dry pavement? Learn to drive in the rain. Going through a class at ProFormance Driving School the weather plays an important role in teaching. As Don Kitch teaches there is an art to driving in the rain. Today was a great opportunity as the rain was coming down, quite the contrast to the last session held in the sunshine.

Groups of 4 to 6 did a lead/follow after class instruction, they learned the line around the track and the rules that must be obeyed to do so once they are cut loose on their own. Check out the ProFormance web site for upcoming dates

2014 Pacific Raceways Winners Banquet

21 Nov 2014 Kent, WA – This year’s banquet held at Emerald Downs brought many to fill the tables for food and awards. E.T. winners shared their experiences at the finals, and what is planned for next year’s race cars filled the room with conversation. There was plenty of applause for all the winners with a bit more directed towards Norm and Gordon for their accomplishments this year. Congratulation to all the winners and see you next season.

High Performance Sport Driving Day At Pacific Raceways

15 Nov 2014 Kent, WA – When Mother Nature graces the Northwest with sunny and chilly weather those who enjoy the 2.25mi. road course at Pacific Raceways come from afar to take advantage. The north of the border plates on many cars shows their interest in lapping Pacific’s course.

From pure class race cars to street driven daily drivers, and toss in a variety of go karts made a great event for those who dressed for the weather. They had lots to watch.

Fall Moto GP Series At Pacific Raceways – Nov 8th, 2014

08 Nov 2014 Kent, WA – The first of a six GP series dates kicked off with a weather day that could not be better. Sunshine and NO rain in sight had all commenting on how nice it was.

With a new layout put down over a couple days by manager Lance Smail and help tested the best of riders. Watching the rider’s transition from the dirt to the asphalt part of the road course at Pacific Raceways had to be the change that tested the riders the most.

A wet and loaded with mud knobby tire does not grip too well leaning into a curve at speed. Those that figured out this change and the other on dirt challenges put down some impressive lap times, passing a number of riders who had not quite figured it out. If you ride a dirt bike you got to check this out, it WILL test you and your skills.
