Mother nature’s spring weather finally let up and gave the drag strip at Pacific Raceways a chance to hold an event. Constant rain has marred any attempts to hold an event until now. With the Quick 8 kicking off it’s inaugral race, a dry and the and well prepped track surface is a must. The beautiful sunny weather was the talk of the event as all the racer’s were happy that the change in the weather finally gave them a chance to race. With 20 Jr. Dragsters and 37 entered in the Car Club, racing happiness showed on their faces. Here are your winner’s:

In Jr. Thunder Chase Gardner beat Ian Theofeus

Bianna Lindsey bested the #1 Qfy. Jordin Howell in Jr. Lightning

Larry DeCamp out lasted the field to and Wade Cooley to take the Car Club win

Kris Krabill driving for Bucky Austin edged out “Mr. Explosive” Mark Sanders in the Quick 8

SCCA Practice At Pacific Raceways

Sports cars by nature are meant to be driven in nice weather, but when they are raced in a competitive manner you have to learn what the adverse conditions will do to your car.

Racing on a roadcourse in the northwest will test your driving skills, racing is done on wet and slick conditions. Throttle position as delicate as driving with an egg under your right foot helps keep the car going forward. Push too hard in the improper attitude an you may find yourself going in dougnuts or at least slidways. With the track surfaces changing through the practice day the driver’s should hav encountered all they will need over the next two days of racing.

Midday lunch to all was provided by Bigfood, the fine food vendor at Pacific Raceways. Pulled pork, slaw, chips and drinks will pick you up on a rainy day at the track.

The ProFormance Driving School instructors helped out those who had not raced the track’s 2.25mi. surface.

Brothers PowerSports Friday Night MX Series #4

Rain, rain, and more rain made soup out of the MX track tonight at Pacific Raceways. It would have been near impossible to get the track groomed for racing on Friday night, so MX Manager Lance Smail made the tough call on practice in order to make sure the surface was good for the moto events. The Friday night racing draws quite a few riders from the area and is becoming very popular. With new rider’s entering each event by mid-season we may be able to line the bikes up and encircle the track.

National Dragster Challenge, Junior Dragster #2 & WSCA #1 At Pacific Raceways

Somehow this race day fell in line with a movie line I heard years ago. “Endeavor to persevere”. Those words fit everyone involved with this race day from the racer’s who could not race, to the track crew who repeatedly had to dry the track. With just enough time to dry the track, and to get cars to the line, then run a pair or two, it would rain again on the track. Mother nature’s spring weather at its best, doing what it does to ensure the beauty that the northwest has, and for it to stay that way, though her timing does not mix well when traction is your goal. When Mother Nature realized that today no one was giving in she let up and let the racing begin, and continue to the end with no interruptions. At the end of racing the winners were:
JR. Thunder saw Selena Leninhan outlasted the field and Josh Schmanke.
In JR. Lightning Sierra Rohr beat Bianna Lindsey.
Former track champ Jake Havens running a better package edged Jim Funderburg in the motorcycle class.
Adding another statue to his many others Don “the worm” Elgin earned when Nick Douglas broke out in the sportsman final.
In a battle of wheel standing Pro class cars, Jeff Warnke’s Nova when world champ Brad Burton went to fast.
Another breakout in SuperPro by Steve Beggerly gave Jess Dale the win.

Brothers PowerSports Friday MX Series At Pacific Raceways – May 18th, 2013

There was hot and heavy racing under rainy and cloudy conditions at Pacific Raceways. The conditions were not ideal, in fact they were a bit challenging and a lot of fun in the mud. The mud was not enough to sink into but enough to cover the rider behind you. Pressure washer racing to be sure for the bike, tear offs required for the goggles, but what about the rider? You can’t have too many changes of riding gear can you? I have to imagine the cleanup between motos was quite a frenzy! Having practiced in these conditions on the Wed. practice session, it appeared that some of the rider’s gained by doing so. If you race in all weather, practice in all weather seems to hold true. To find this action, come out to the MX track at Pacific Raceways on a Wed. or Fri. night.

Moto Cross Practice At Pacific Raceways – May 15th, 2013

Moto Cross practice on Wednesday brought out a good group of riders setting their sights on the Friday race. With weather conditions similar to the forecast for the race on Friday, this practice session provided conditions will help on race day. Good luck on race day Friday!

Frank Nelson Sr. (1937-2013)

It is with as sad heart to announce the passing of longtime NHRA Northwest Division Six racer Frank Nelson Sr. I met Frank in the mid 1980’s at then SIR, and Frank helped me shape the direction of my photography. His large and powerful hand on your shoulder had a way of steering you in the right direction. I will surely miss him, but never forget how he helped me. My condolences to his family in time of sorrow. – Jim Doyle

In Motorcycle William Nitta’s Hayabusa bested John Plaster’s Harley.
The Sportsman seen Corey Zamzow end AJ Tibbetts bid.
