New…New…New!!

New…New…New!!

Lots of new and exciting changes are in store for the 2012 Season Opener at Pacific Raceways….Did I say new? How bout a new series sponsor!

For racers and fans familiar with the Lucas Drag Racing Series, the name Frank Tamez should be a familiar one. The standout Top Sportsman, Pro Mod and Pro Street driver can be described as a winner on all counts, having won numerous honors in the Lucas Oil Series and the Pacific Street Car Association.

He is a winner in the business world too, with his company Auto Max USA earning the prestigious “#1 volume independent used car dealership in the Pacific Northwest “ award a couple of years ago from his original location in Frank’s words “tiny Yakima”.

Most importantly for those of us in the Seattle area, Frank and his son Kurtis recently decided to expand their business, opening a new location in Kent; at the old Brett Chevrolet dealership location which is now the home of Kent Performance Auto Center and Auto Max USA. Along with the new business came the decision to form a “marketing partnership” with Pacific Raceways as the new sponsor of the 2012 Auto Max USA Bracket Series!

Plans include Kurtis as a regular competitor in the series, driving a “are you ready for this…” A VAN! Fully “wrapped in the Auto Max USA colors! Special offers and promotions are also planned for the new year! (For more information about Auto Max USA: http://www.latemodelcars.com

Last years series champions, Al Chinn in Super Pro, Bill Windley in Pro, Paul Young in Sportsman, Jake Havens in Motorcycle and Brandon Glatt in High School will join Junior Thunder class winner Lane Carver as they try to defend last seasons titles. Amanda Hitchcock last season’s Junior Lightning champion will be making the move to “full size” competition in 2012!

More new changes include a new concessionaire; ya gotta love the name- “Big Food” will be serving up a new menu for the new season! For more information on Big Food: http://www.bigfoodmobile.com.

A new “drag strip manager” joins the Pacific Raceways team, as John Ramsey will be in charge at all the drag racing events in 2012.
So lets summarize, new series sponsor Auto Max USA “check”, new food concessionaire “Big Food” “check”, new track manager John Ramsey “check”…

All in all things are looking good for 2012!

Now if they would only bring back “The FOX HUNT” our dreams will be realized….Oh, that’s the subject for another story…

Hopp’in Into Spring…

Hopp’in into Spring….

With Spring’s arrival, flowers bloom, and “April Showers bring not only May Flowers” but Bremerton Raceway’s  Annual Easter Bunny Nationals this coming weekend….A great racing tradition that spans more than two decades begins Friday April 6th a Test and Tune is planned. Saturday brings more testing and finally on Sunday the 8th its Easter and the “beginning” of what has traditionally been a crazy and fun points chase….More than 250 competitors are expected….Every class from the three divisions of Jr. Dragster competition, Junior Thunder, Junior Lightning and the 8-9 Year Old division will earn points along with High School, Sportsman, Pro, Super Pro and Motorcycle. Competition at the “season opener” is always close, and the Easter Bunny will be there to supervise…

Last years track champions: Sportsman:  Jerry Gossette, High School:  Steven Gossette, Pro:  Robert Steffen, Super Pro:  Don Sefton, Motorcycle:  Joe Lind, 8 & 9 Year Old:  Jeremiah Watts, Thunder:  Josh Schmanke, will try to defend their respective titles beginning this weekend. Junior Lightning Champ Austin Calhoun will make the move to full size “competition” this year!

Team Group Health/Sound Velo Cycling At Pacific Raceway

On a rainy day in the Northwest most people are trying to stay warm and dry. This is not the case if you are one of the lady cyclists and part of Team Group Health/Sound Velo Cycling. They chose a rainy February Saturday recently to practice for the upcoming cycling season by hosting a “Beginner Race Clinic” for new team members. This clinic helped prepare the Cat-4 women’s field for a safe and rewarding 2012 race season. More than 30 rides used the Pacific Raceways Road Course practicing such things as bike handing, cornering along with riding and racing in a pack.

The team is the area’s largest women’s cycling team. They compete in road, track, cyclocross, and mountain bike racing events at the local, regional, and national levels. Their focus on women and large presence in each cycling discipline differentiates Team Group Health from other area cycling teams. With more than 70 members strong, they are a veritable force whenever the rubber meets the road, the track, or the dirt.

The woman of Team Group Health/Velo Cycling are proud of a long history of community engagement and competitive success, as well as a reputation for exceptional sportsmanship. Each season, the team remains focused on these core qualities as they strive to improve women’s racing by developing new riders and building an elite racing team. Not only will you find them competing on the road, at the track, or playing in the dirt, they also spend countless hours volunteering in our community and at cycling-related events and mentoring racers new to the sport.
