Winter Practice Tree Series At Pacific Raceways – February 1st, 2014

Winter Practice Tree Series ( TMS ) 2-1-2014 03101 Feb 2014 Kent, WA – Changing locations for an event can be a test to how well planning can work. Such was the case for this the 4th of 5 events in the Winter Practice Tree Series.

This time TMS hosted the racers to their headquarters. I have to say that if you are a Mustang fan of any sort this is the place to check out. With a wide range of cars and projects in the building along with a “Dyno” to test them when completed.

TMS provided hot coffee and pastries covered in a blue and green icing, I guess the icing had something going on the next day on the East coast.  Caffine and sugar will get you going in the morning.

TMS general manager Marc Sorger gladly showed off the facility and answered any questions and explained what made the projects unique, and the challenge of keeping a dozen worker’s of verious skills busy. Marketing man Scott Jensen talked to the Practice Tree competitors about the shops operation with what they offer and all about parts for the Mustang owner. Check out their website at www.TheMustangShop.com and see if it fits what you have in mind, if it’s a “pony” they can help.

With Marc and Scott helping with the random drawing of tech cards the pairings were set for Ed and Lanae to set the ladder and get the event underway. Defending her points lead Dawn Whitman went into the finals aginst track champ Paul Youngs. Paul picked up his second win in the series today and it’s shaping up a tight race to the last event at “The Sports Page” on Feb.15th. See you there.

Winter Practice Tree Series – January 18th, 2014

Winter Practice Tree Series 1-18-2014 04018 Jan 2014 Kent, WA – With the mid-way point in the Practice Tree Series upon us, it was time for a differant winner to show themself. As in the actual use for the tree, it’s hard to repeat wins but in order to repeat you need to practice.

The BIG differance here is the fact that you are about 10 feet away from the tree at your table with food and drink, something that is not even close to reality in dragracing.

In this setting at The Sports Page, it gives a more relaxed atmosphere with alot more side by side ribbing and most definitly a chance to match reactions with someone you do not normally get a chance to. As dragracing has shown that sometimes father’s race daughter’s, sibling’s race sibling’s. Husband vs. Wife?

That is a story on it’s own merit, as I know it happens from time to time, but it has to be special when it does. This night turns out wife got the better of hubby in the semi’s but in the end they were both in the money.

The next race date is February 1st, 2014,  at series co-sponsor TMS Performance & Dyno Tuning located in Auburn, at 1929 West Valley Hwy. So., Auburn, WA

See you there 9:00am!

High Performance Sport Driving Day At Pacific Raceways – January 4th, 2014

High Performance Sport Driving Day 1-4-2014 52504 Jan 2014 Kent, WA – Roadcourse driving is all about following a “line” to obtain your fastest time and speed. The other factor is the weather. You get to drive in all weather conditions.

Rain, snow, etc. Of the weather that “will” stop any driving on the course the three main one’s are “hydroplaning”, “lightning”, and “ice”.

The latter was the case for a short time during the practice day. A short time with a torch and broom cured the issue allowed the day to begin. This type of issue is only one part of what the instructors and Pacific personal check for before anyone attempts to lap the 2.25 mile track. Safety first is always the first order of business. Kudo’s to them. Sound intrusting to you? Check out Pacific’s website to check for the next HPSDD.

Fall Moto GP Series At Pacific Raceways – January 5th, 2014

Fall Moto GP Series 1-5-2014 04205 Jan 2014 – Kent, WA – This re-scheduled event turned out to be a very wise move. Though it pained MX manager Lance Smail to do so in the end it was all about “safety”.

Today there were no issues with weather induced conditions. Sunny and cold is something that can be handled. Those who raced in the previous event raced in a counterclockwise direction at a length of about 3 miles.

This time riders went in the” opposite direction”. If you thought you knew the course from before, no – there were new challenges and obstacles to overcome.

To have the chance to improve your riding “skills” this has to be the best of anything you could incounter on the MX bike. Knobby tires are made for dirt, sand and even in snow with a little traction aid added. This time of year the cold temps harden the ground and will create icy surfaces, put this with ashpalt to ride on and it got the attention of all rider’s. It was quite a challenge to test against.

The Pacific Raceways property is perfect for this type of event, and I am sure more of these events are being planned. Stay tuned.

Winter Practice Tree Series At Pacific Raceways – January 4th, 2014

Winter Practice Tree Race Series 1-4-2014 014As word gets around about this series going on, more and more are realizing that it is more to it than your reaction time.

First it is a chance to keep sharp what you need for the racing season. In that group you now have person to person updates on what is new or plans for your racecar.

Put this now in a “sports” orientated establishment. Every seat has a view to a TV screen, even “outside” playing the current sports programing according to the “season”. Now add to this “food”. With a menu that has all the bases covered and a “steak” dinner special that can be had anyday now makes for a recipe for a out to dinner time. Joe and his crew will take care of you for food and drink as you watch and practice on the tree. Check out the” Sports Page” website for dates or go to Pacificraceways.com for info.

Moto Cross GP At Pacific Raceway

Fall Moto GP Series 12-28-2013 04328 Dec 2013 Kent, WA – Moto Cross courses must have a lot of variety.  These Moto GP courses that get laid out do they can be a learning experience for even the pro riders.

Logs, dirt, gravel and even asphalt surfaces to grip with a knobby tire. Up, down and around with a little go thru this is the name of the game. Straghtaway speeds on the pavement are quite fast but that grip has the rider’s attention as they have to slow down enough to manuver and almost go back in the direction you came from.

At an estamated length of 3 miles according to MX manager Lance Smail the course was being lapped in around 7 minutes for the Pro riders. That’s a pretty good time considering that most of obstacles are somewhat of a trap if the right line is not taken thru it, and with thick mud it had to be the worst I;ve seen with those sand traps right up there also.

More of these events are set up for the New 2014 Year and if you are interested check out Pacific Raceways web site to see the dates and information.

Winter Practice Tree Race Series At Pacific Raceways

Pactree1-t52014 Dec 2013 Kent, WA – Dragracing by nature is just not how fast or quick you get to the finish line.

Heads up racing is what you see when watching them on TV. Brut horsepower is a major part of the process but that only pertains to the car, dragster, motorcycle, etc. The human part of all this all about “reaction time”. How close you hit the tree can be the differance between winning or losing.

Skill in this reaction time part is only gained by practice, practice, practice. This practice can be done with devices that are small and portable and allow you to sit in your ride as you would on the track and practice cutting a good light.

One of the devices is a whole tree to look at and a shifter button for actavating the tree. This portable device can be set up anyplace that has power. Given any chance to practice to a dragracer is given a serious look at, to keep that edge you may have gained during the race season. If you think you have good reaction time skills, check out the Winter Practice Tree Race Series At Pacific Raceways and come test yourself aginst the tree, and other racers.
