4-Stroke Fall-Winter Series Race At Pacific Raceways

4-Stroke Series 2-15-15 35315 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – The series says Fall-Winter but this was definitely a Spring- like day. Sunshine with no rain in sight will put smiles on everyone’s faces and a little bit extra pep in the step and more importantly grip on the track surface.

No driver likes using the “rain” tires, just too slow as you have to counter the forces of nature you impose on it with the kart. Love those slicks and grip that makes them work. Parity, it’s a word used in the description of how evenly matched the racers are, this was very apparent in the racing today.

With a warning at the driver’s meeting that aggression toward any competitor like blocking, pushing or swerving will be penalized, it’s not bumper cars. This information translated into some great racing no matter the class.

The bottom line really is all about your skill as a driver and understanding how to use your position on the track to gain position. Here are the driver’s whose skill showed today.

High Performance Sport Driving Day – Feb 8th, 2015

High Perfomance Sport Driving Day 2-8-15 52708 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – With the weatherman saying no rain the drivers came out for laps around the 2.25 mile track at Pacific Raceways. Learning to drive in the rain here is important but the horsepower that is produced by today’s cars needs dry pavement to put it to use.

A combination of lapping cars and the sun dried the track on the correct line around the track – and it brought the speeds up as traction to apply that horsepower came around.  However rain tires were a must as the sun did not reach some spots around the circuit. It’s still winter but anytime spring like weather presents itself in the northwest people get out and do things to take advantage.

You have to feel for those folks on the east coast and all the snow they are getting keeping all but the hardiest indoors. Who knows what the weather will be like on the 21st of Feb. for the next HPSDD will be but I don’t think snow tires will be needed, see you then.

Rental Kart Endurance Race At Pacific Raceways

Rental Kart Endurance Race 2-7-15 40407 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – Drifting on water is the only way to describe the rental kart race today. Driving in the rain is hard enough with good tires made for the wet weather. Now take away the tread that give you the grip and go as fast as you can and negotiate a curve in either direction without spinning out. This was the challenge for today’s racers.

Carry too much speed into the corner and you could find the back end of your kart wanting to lead the way. Transferring what you feel in your butt to your right foot is where the learning to drive on slicks and wet weather come into play in a kart. PGP is open rain or shine so come on out and put it to a test driving in inclement weather.

Taking the top spot today Cem Aykan showed them how with Tamer Ozkaraoglu coming in second and Maurice Shawver rounding out the top three.

Winter Practice Tree Series #4 – Feb 7th, 2015

Winter Practice Tree Series #4 2-7-15 00707 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – When the practice tree series moved to The Sports Page the setup for the event has been the same thus far. Walking in tonight it was apparent right away that the setup had been changed. The sound of a live band hit you as you came thru the door. In all the past races this is a first.

Making this happen was the work of Jaysen Dickhoff with his very good friends “The Fabulous Johnsons” band. For Lynn, Manuel and Jeff this was their morning as they played the night before. Drinking a few cups of coffee drove away the night and it showed or I should say sounded well-polished, like a fast race car.

Running thru the rounds as the band took a break worked out well. Then while the ladder was being figured out the band played a few more songs and heckled Jaysen between them, something that old friends having fun will do.

Images of all the fun are now available – click here to go to the album.

See you for the last race Feb.21st and the crowning of the winner.

Rental Pro-Am & Pro League Race

Rental Pro-Am and Pro League Race 1-31-15 38631 Jan 2015 Kent, WA – Create the competition and they will come. Such is the case for the rental series at PGP. These two classes though each to their own have riders that put down lap times pretty close to each other.

Still they are different classes and the time in that class is all about your driving ability as each is a stepping stone to a higher class of racing.

This day of racing had a thick fog to contend with as it restricted your sight in both distance and out your visor. Anytime one of your hands could be free of the wheel it was wiping the droplets away. Just another experience to put under your helmet as league racing goes on in any weather conditions.

The drivers who came out of the fog to gain a spot on the podium are as follows:

Pro-Am
1st – Garrett Foss
2nd – Aaron Penn
3rd – Christian Pedersen

Pro

2nd – Cem Aykan

High Performance Sport Driving Day At Pacific Raceways

High Performance Sport Driving Day 1-24-15 11824 Jan 2015 Kent, WA – On the weekend of the 24 hours at Daytona the amount of new faces taking part in the HPSDD at Pacific’s own road course shows the interest in this form of driving. Future dreams maybe?

You have to start somewhere and the driver’s school located on the grounds is a great way to begin. With Don down at that 24hr event this weekend, his cadre of instructors at the school took four groups of students through the class work and driving instructing without a hitch, a definite tribute to Kitch’s leadership.

The student’s cars can range from a Jeep to a brand new Ferrari. That is a wide range so whatever you drive can fit in to take advantage of driving in the Northwest weather in an instructed and controlled manner.

The street is not the place to put the power that a new car has these days you have to know how to control it and how far it can be pushed to be a safer driver on the streets. Check Pacific’s web site for the next chance to take advantage of this valued learning.

PGP Junior Kart Race – Jan 18th, 2015

PGP Junior Race 1-18-15 39318 Jan 2015 Kent, WA – How things can change around as far as the weather is concerned and how you deal with it in a racing environment. With the rain, for these young racers it was the best training on how to control a “slick” tired kart against the forces of “nature”.

It was a mostly a dry surface in the first heat to a downpour for the second to a damp track for the final race. Taking things at this age is nothing new as many professional drivers got their start in karting. Pure seat of the pants driving one inch off the surface brings those forces of nature right up thru your body.

Doing this enough builds muscle memory that becomes automatic without thought as in most everything that is done repeatedly. Doing this in the changing weather/track conditions like that sponge soaking up water these young driver’s take it all in and just get better.
