Bremerton Double Header – John Kilgor Footbrake Race

Bremerton Sat. 7-2-16 (473)03 July 2016 Kent, WA – It was back-to-back events in an E.T. Series with points to be had in close competition this weekend at Bremerton Raceway.  Weekends like this can change your standings overnight. Big moves can be had to move up in the standings with the closeness of the points.

Bremerton Sun. 7-3-17 (362)

An early out by those ahead of you will get you up on the wheel to take advantage of it, but don’t get too eager – the “red” light is still there to take you out. By the end of racing on Sunday there were a number of new number one’s in the classes setting up for the remaining races to be quite contested.

The big prize for the weekend was the John Kilgor Footbrake Race. Old school foot on the “brake” and mash the gas is the “rule”. Turn off your race car’s electronics and remember how you raced in the past. It came with a winner payout that totaled “30” one hundred dollar bills and payouts many places down.

Win a few rounds and you were playing with “house” money that packed the lanes with racers looking to win some money. Put together and overseen by the Sears Family Racing and Gary Howe and his construction company.   It has been growing each year since its inception shows how popular it has become.

Great job by all and bigger and better next year. We’ll begin the winners list with the footbrake winner Rob Boardway who got the pile of cash yet I think the “big” winner of the weekend was Dustin Ward, who first picked up the “Pro” class then pocketed the runner up cash in the footbrake race on Saturday then repeat in the “Pro” class on Sunday. Talk about in a “zone”-  he was in it this weekend and it showed. Congrats to all the weekends winners all 25 of them.

ProFormance Racing School & Motorcycle & Diesel Drag Racing – June 29th, 2016

AM Only Skills-Novice HP-PM Lapping 6-29-16 (164)29 June 2016 Kent, WA – Two venues and teaching all day long. Starting with ProFormance Racing School and a classroom full of students ready to take in what the instructors are saying. The classroom and hands on teaching that you get from the school will increase your awareness driving on the streets. It really should be a must for all new drivers to go thru a program like this as you will have a better understanding of what you need to do when something happens. Check into Don’s program and become a better driver, see the ProFormance web site for info.

Images from the 3 sessions of the school are now online – click here for the ProFormance Racing School Images.

MC #5-Diesel #5 6-29-16 (33)On to the straight line driving of the teaching and learning day. The mid-week series of bikes and diesels gets underway with a pack full of bikes. These racers have to be the most dedicated to their series as any. Each race they promptest of racers to the lanes sometimes as the announcers are calling for them. Great group of people to be around no matter win or lose.

To the teaching part of the evening came a sandwich sponsored dragster with a new driver. This lady driver for the first time is going after an NHRA license. Being guided and schooled by her father in-law she made four runs, all safe and in order. Looks like it won’t be long before a family becomes a three car team when you add the Jr. Dragster the son drives. Good luck to you all and safe racing.

MC #5-Diesel #5 6-29-16 (148)For the unfinished MC race held a short time back Jim Funderburg pulled out the win over Gary Tokos. For the nights series Kevin Jellum claimed another win in the Diesel class over Jim Calhoun and Chris Benda outlasted the field to pick up the PRDC trophy stopping Mark Sires.

Swift Tools ET Series #7 & #8 at Pacific Raceways

Swift #8-WCSA-Doorslammers 6-26-16 (619)26 June 2016 Kent, WA – Back-to-Back E.T. races at Pacific Raceways are fun in many ways – bringing well in excess of 200 entries for the weekend.  Along with the Swift Tools E.T. series the West Coast Streetcar Association and Canada West Doorslammers brought their high powered machines for their series at Pacific Raceways.

Swift #8-WCSA-Doorslammers 6-26-16 (185)The great weather for racing had everyone ready to go at the scheduled time. Knowing how many runs no matter the class is shown in the “run order” that everyone has access to see. Knowing the times that you run also helps plan their doings when not running. You still have to eat and do any servicing to your race car. Unlike some tracks Pacific Raceways no matter the user on the dragstrip or road course they run until a curfew.  Packed lanes and running to that hour ended the #7 race unfinished.

Swift #8-WCSA-Doorslammers 6-26-16 (220)Finish up Sunday was the logical answer.  The run order already set for Sunday according to the time allotted has dragstrip manager Ed Garfield in a time juggling mode. Knowing that towards the end of Sunday races the “cool down” times brings moments of no racing he explained at the drivers meeting the new schedule.  It was executed to perfection by the dragstrip crew getting all races completed before time ran out with a big “great job” to the crew from Ed.

Albums are in two albums, one for each day – Click here to go to the Swift Tools ET Series Albums Page.

Double Header Weekend at Pacific Raceways

Super Saturday 6-11-16 (86)12 June 2016 Kent, WA – An action packed weekend of racing brought well in access of 200 entries spread among thirteen classes on Saturday and seven on Sunday.

Fighting off mother nature on Saturday as the track prepped and ready and cars called to the lanes, came the DOWNPOUR.  Just enough to soak everything and everyone scampering for cover. When the rain finished the Pacific drag crew brought the track back to condition as if the rain never happened.  Plenty of thanks from all for this well oiled crew earning the track the nickname “the house of hook”.

Super Saturday 6-11-16 (87)This crew takes pride in track prep that will pull your shoes off if you are not careful. Noticing this grip first hand Jonathan Hillstrand of the “Deadliest Catch” TV Show out to earn his license to race and giving the Jr. Dragster winner’s a big congrats and trophies. It was quite a thrill for them as their faces showed big smiles.

Over 900 images are available for the double header in two albums:

PDRC #3 & Diesel Drags #3 at Pacific Raceways

PRDC #3 and Diesel #3 5-25-16 (238)25 May 2016 Kent, WA – You never know who is going to show up for the mid-week drags. PRDC is growing as more riders are joining in on the fun. The Diesel drags, brand new are starting to draw those big rigs to the track.

Then you have the test and tune part of the evening and it’s always fun to wonder who is going to show up for testing. Out putting a new funny car thru its shakedown passes was Randy Parker putting three passes on the new machine, quite impressive.

PRDC #3 and Diesel #3 5-25-16 (212)Northwest legend Al Young had his son Chase drag racing the GTX for the first time, always nice to see Al.  Also from the northwest TV family the Hillstrand bunch from Deadliest Catch were out having fun on a Wednesday night. As I mentioned you never know who is going to show for some mid-week fun.

The winners in tonight’s classes are: Mark Sires in PRDC and Kevin Jellum in the Diesel Drags.

Images of all the action, including a beautiful new Funny Car, are now available – click here to go to the album.

Toyota/Scion/Lexus Event at Pacific Raceways

TSL Day 5-22-16 (18)22 May 2016 Kent, WA – A new event has been added to the 2016 goings on at Pacific Raceways. The TSL has new legs and is just getting off the ground. It displays a combination of cars on the paddock with a lead/follow on the road course with ProFormance Racing School owner Don Kitch leading the way and ending with the drags on the strip.

TSL Day 5-22-16 (3)

NWMotiv was on the grounds recording the event and promoting the new event.  It is patterned after other events that use Pacific Raceways entire grounds – and this idea will take off in the future. The social media aspect that is ingrained into the generation that is popularizing the Toyota line of autos will spread like wildfire and like the other’s will bring many people who feel the same about them.

TSL Day 5-22-16 (21)

I can see next year’s event learning from the first to bring bigger and better into the future, plan for it.

Jr Dragsters #4 & Car Club #1 at Pacific Raceways

Jr. #4 and Car Club #1 5-20-16 (151)20 May 2016 Kent, WA – Here is the next generation and those that just like racing. Watching the Jr’s and their pretty much identical dragsters per the rules then Car Club brings those that pass tech to the line.

It could be a ’48 Ford and a 2016 Vette lining up to face each other. The common theme, “having fun” even if you lose the race you still have a smile and a congrats to the winner. Throw in a Pro Mod and a couple of 10.5 cars doing some testing and it was quite a show for those that sit in the stands.

Jr. #4 and Car Club #1 5-20-16 (3)The events winners are:

Jr. Storm: Jaslyn Bean
Jr. Thunder: Luke Cavar
Jr. Lightning: Josh Schmanke
Car Club: Wayne Douglas

Motorcycle #2 & Diesels #2 at Pacific Raceways

MC #2 - Diesel #2 5-18-16 (26)18 May 2016 Kent, WA – Under the threat of rain the mid-week bike and diesel drags got underway at Pacific Raceways. What did push on the night was the wind coming right down the track into your face.

MC #2 - Diesel #2 5-18-16 (38)

The wind didn’t have much to do with the diesel rigs but the bike riders could sure feel it. Both groups had an increase in numbers to show the Wednesday race is growing and as is said the more the merrier.

Also growing is the test and tune portion of the evening as those new car buys just need to be tested, and this is a great place to do so and much better than the streets.

MC #2 - Diesel #2 5-18-16 (12)

The rain never came down putting a hamper on the races which put Chris Benda in Motorcycle and Vince Storms for Diesel in the winner’s circle. Go to the Pacific Raceways web site for the next mid-week race date.

Super Saturday at Pacific Raceways

Super Saturday 5-7-16 50907 May 2016 Kent, WA – The kickoff to the 2016 Super Saturday event got underway under sunny blue skies. A dozen classes for racing gave those in the stands a very wide range in racing to take in. Not too much further apart than “Jr. Storm to Pro Mod” that you can see on a race day.

Sunscreen and hydration was the staple for kicking back in the stands and soaking it all up. Check Pacific’s web site for the next date and come out and enjoy the action.
