Import FaceOFF at Pacific Raceways – June 1st, 2014

Import FaceOff 6-1-14 24101 June 2014 Kent, WA – In their yearly visit to Pacific Raceways, Hybrid Entertainment brings the Import FaceOff for a car show and a day of drag racing for thousands who fill the grounds. Six classes filled the lanes with a wide range of race and street cars.

Most of the entries were without a parachute attached to the rear-end of their ride, but those who did have them put on quite a show – having to put the chutes to good use to get stopped from some pretty fast times and speed. Quite impressive for some non V8 powered race cars for a 1/4 mi. race. For more info on this event and more go to www.ImportFaceOff.net to find out more.

Swift Tools Drag Racing Series #6 & Quick 8 – May 31st, 2014

Swift Tool ET Race #6 and Quick Eight 5-31-14 17631 May 2014 Kent, WA – All day racing on Saturday with fine weather is the best. This is event number six in a season long series sponsored by Swift Tool for those seeking “track champion” status, and an opportunity to represent the track at the ET Finals.  Oh, and not to mention the hardware that come with that position.

For the spectators these four classes offer some great ET racing in four NHRA legal classes and with a Quick Eight category the entertainment expands greatly. With all heads up racing and in the quick eight you have PRO MOD and A/FC and A/D racing against each other. Not normally seen in legal class racing it is exciting to watch a “funny car” race a “dragster” in a “heads up” race.

Great track prep by Pacific’s crew made the races closer than one might imagine, keeping up with the track in the spring northwest sun is a challenge for both track crew and crew chiefs alike. Starting line launches by the Stock and Super Stock classes brought some very high wheelies, some went quite a distance.  One ET racer went farther down the track then he has ever gone before looking more like “Ed Jones” then his “normal” wheels up launches.

Invited guests of series sponsor Swift Tool were being treated to a food and racing day with an added bonus of the sponsor’s car coming up against his good friend in some great side by side drag racing. Neither cared who won as they were having too much fun, though in any competition they do want to beat each other. Start to Finish it’s “Game On” then help each other for the next round.

Over 600 images are now available for viewing and purchase.  Click on the link below to go to the photo album.

Car Club #2 & Junior Dragsters At Pacific Raceways

Car Club #2 and JR Dragsters #3 5-30-14 43930 May 2014 Kent, WA – Nice weather will bring the racers to the track. This Friday night the Junior Dragsters and their pretty evenly paired cars per class were on hand, and the wide range of cars that come in for the Car Club Event.

For those spectators who come out on these nights of racing, a favorite car of the spectator’s choice is more than likely going to be making passes. With either 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile you can move you around in the stands.  If you like watching close finishes for those in competition and add in a test and tune for those running in the weekend’s events and those just wanting to “drag” there car you could just about see anything on the track.

There were lots of cars to choose from, so there are a lot of images.  Click here to go to the album.

These are the winners from this fine Friday night of racing:

CAR CLUB: Larry DeCamp outlasted the class in his 69 Camaro over Jason Cooper in his 72 Maverick
JR STORM: Anastazia Gossette got the win when Alexis Krier fouled
JR THUNDER: Elizabeth Lindsey in a pair of Puyallup natives beat Chloe Hofmann
JR LIGHTNING: The Half Scale over the Gunslinger, Yeshua Wilcox over Kelsee Gage respectfully

Northwest Region SCCA US Majors Tour – Stephen K Danton Memorial Race At Pacific Raceways

SCCA Northwest Region US Major 5-26-14 78826 May 2014 Kent, WA – Nearly 150 entries rolled onto the Pacific Raceways legendary 2.25 mile road course for the 34th time: for this Memorial Day weekend of racing. The teams attending are from the Pacific Northwest, including parts of Canada. There were a number of teams from Nevada and California also that made the drive.

One driver came all the way from Miami Florida with his father overseeing him as this young man is only 17 years old. Has to be living a dream though, he is a good driver and is quite focused on the road ahead of him.

Local drag racers, the Ermish’s welcomed Troy from Tracy, CA for a family weekend get together, lots of smiles around that camp. I have to think that there is alot more families doing the same thing.

Enduring the weekend with the Northwest weather – still in spring mode was to be the challenge of the event. Cloudy, rain, sunny and dry has to make tuning and suspension changes a lot of log book moments.

Racing these fine machines in good conditions pushes man and race car to the limits, now throw in adverse weather and the seat of your pants becomes more in tune. For those who overcame all these conditions go to www.nwr-scca.org for the results.

Pacific Raceways has many wonderful vantage points and photo opportunities.  The weather provided a great variety of lighting conditions as well, so over 3,400 images are now available.  The pictures are broken down into four albums – by day, so please take a look at all of them for your favorites.

Swift Tools ET Drag Racing Series #5 At Pacific Raceways

Swift Tool ET Race #5 5-18-14 03218 May 2014 Kent, WA – This day quite a number of people remember it as the day Mt. St. Helens blew up at the viewing site just north of the flow. A number of racers will pass nearby the site on their way north to the track, though just like then the Mt. clouds covered everything.

With the chance of rain on the horizon race’s lost one of their qualifying hits to hopefully beat Mother Nature.

Some think she got the hint as the rain stayed away – though the breeze had a chill to it. Over 125 racers raced against the changing skies as the sun was in and out affecting the Dial In choices. Those who got it right are as follows:

SUPER PRO: Al Chin took his door slammer wagon to stop the hard charging dragster of Darral Petitt
PRO: Track champ Scott Lewsley defended his turf in a double break-out over John Barnett
SPORTSMAN: #1 Qfy. Nick Douglas beat #7 Qfy. Hat Taylor
MC: Jake Havens got another win when Chris Benda fouled
No Crosstalk: Dennis McGinnis got it over Jason Cooper
Crosstalk: Tory Lea handed it to John Ermish

Images are now available – click here to go to the album.

A bonus today was the Austin family was out testing again, good to see you and photograph again. Good Luck with the dragster.

Car Club #1 & Jr Dragster Nationals At Pacific Raceway

Car Club #1 and JR #1 5-16-14 23716 May 2014 Kent, WA – Friday night drag racing has been going on since two people wanted to see who was faster. This night had the next bunch of racers who have hopes and dreams to go further up the ladder in the sport. The beginner or Jr Dragster classes are a great start for the younger racers to get their feet wet.

Most are racer’s kids who want to do like their Mom or Dad, this fact shows how much drag racing is a family sport. Meanwhile in the other staging lanes are the car club members out for their first runs of the season. Mostly street driven rides with a drag racer at heart racing what they have and having a fun time doing so.

Images of all the action are now available – click here to go to the album.

WINNERS

JR Storm: Anastazia Gossette got the win when Alexis Krier ran too quick
JR Thunder: Ryan Lamoureux bested Luke Cavar
JR Lightning: Jordan Calhoun was handed the win on a red light by Lane Cavar

In a circle of what a lot of folks call northwest legends the Austin family came to the track to test. Walt, his son’s Pat and Mike and their Uncle Bucky brought their respective machines. Just as high powered and innovative as they were in their A/FC day’s. Good to see them still at it, Good Luck.

MX Practice At Pacific Raceways

MX Practice 5-7-2014 14707 May 2014 Kent, WA – The first real Wednesday night MX practice of the season (the first canceled to weather) brought a bunch to enjoy the sunny weather and a chance to practice on the new layout put together by Lance Smail and his crew.

With more improvements planned all the laps you can get can only help, though the laps by the better riders were pretty quick. This in itself shows how well the layout is working. Friday Night racing should be pretty intense. Come on out on Wed. or Fri. or both to check out the fast action.
