Swift Tools ET Series #10 At Pacific Raceways

Swift Tool ET #10 6-22-14 70122 June 2014 Kent, WA – Sunday capped a fine weekend of racing. With the weather staying pretty consistent, sunny and warm, the perfect start to summer. Today there was side-by-side ET racing at its best.

These two day ET Drag Racing weekends bring the families out. Barbeque and camping for most, some live nearby and some motel it, anyway you do it is a family affair. A first time winner, three time winner and a family affair filled the new winner’s circle:

Swift Tools ET Series #9 – Jr Dragster #7 – WCSA & LOL At Pacific Raceways – June 21st, 2014

Swift Tool ET #9 - Jr #7 - WCSA - LOL 6-21-14 58921 Jun 2014 Kent, WA – The house was packed with this multi-class race day. Better than 250 entries filled the classes and for those spectators who watched from the many viewing areas around the track they saw plenty of side by side racing.

From Jr. Dragsters to Top Dragsters with Nitrous-oxide powered street cars. Day-long sun kept the heat on for all and the crew-chiefs guessing, how much can we put to it and still hold? Racing in the finals changes your attack as the sun is on quite a downward angle and the heat-sink that this much sun has given the black racing surface starts putting it back into the air. Cooler track and cooler temps make power and when put to the track make speed and ET’s, both of which can be personal best’s.

Motocross Practice At Pacific Raceways – June 18th, 2014

MX Practice 6-18-14 108518 Jun 2014 Kent, WA – Water and its effect on a motocross track is a fine line. Too much water, like when Mother Nature puts down several inches turns dirt to mud and slop, and that is not conducive to a motorcycle even with the best tires.

With the weather dry the track workers have to hose down the dust and doing so create a fast surface for the riders. Washing this coating of dirt off your bike only takes a hose, as opposed to a pressure washer for the mud from sloppy conditions.

This practice night had the latter working for the rider’s and those who just came to watch. Practice as you race is always in play, so in effect you are watching a race. If dirt throwing and high flying bikes interest you come on out. Check the web site for times and information.

IRDC On The Road Course At Pacific Raceways – June 13-15th, 2014

IRDC at Pacific Raceways Sunday 6-15-14 039IRDC at Pacific Raceways Sunday 6-15-14 156415 June 2014 Kent, WA – Ever drive on a wet surface with bald tires? On the streets this condition can get you in some not so good positions. Road racing tires for dry surfaces are pretty much the same on the outside, so try driving and controlling a race car at over 100 mph. This was the task for a number of classes on this Sunday race day.

Spinning tires get you nowhere fast and on a curve can get you facing the oncoming racecars in a blink. Those that did have rain tires fared well as the tires did their job as “rooster tails” and tire spray were quite visible. The track did dry out though for the class of cars that do not have “inner” fender wells to keep things dry to get their chance at Pacific Raceways 2.25mi. Ten turn legendary track.

High School Drags #2 and Bike #3 – June 11th, 2014 At Pacific Raceways

GARY VETTE-2It’s a somber post this Wednesday here at Seeitimagery as we learned of the passing of Gary Peterson earlier this week.  Gary has been a fixture at Pacific Raceways for many years, abd was known and admired by all of us.  He recently returned to the track after retiring from the postal service.  Our hearts are heavy with his passing.

Racing goes on – tonight there was high school drags event number two, and Bike event number three.

Images are now available for purchase – click here to go there, including a memorial picture of Gary at the top end of the track.

Rest in peace Gary!

Swift Tools ET Series #8 At Pacific Raceways

Swift Tool ET #8 6-8-14 75708 June 2014 Kent, WA – What a difference one night will do the weather, from sunny all day yesterday to a marine layer of clouds that covered the track till early afternoon. That moisture laden air improves performance but when the sun comes out it’s a whole new game.

With a gambler added to the four classes and a 5:00pm deadline to finish the drag race crew seamed to go into smooth running mode as racing finished before curfew.

We also learned that Josh Colson tragically lost his life in an automobile accident over the weekend in Auburn.  All of us at Seeitimagery pass our condolences and prayers to Josh’s family.  You will be missed Josh…

Swift Tools ET Series #7 & Jr Dragster #5, LOL #1 – June 7th, 2014

Swift Tool ET #7, JR #5, LOL #1 6-7-14 115907 June 2014 Kent, WA – With no chance for rain in the forecast over 200 racers filled the grounds at Pacific Raceways for a Saturday full of competition.  There were eight classes to watch and enjoy by spectators and fans.

A group from Idaho has to get a long distance shout out as most of the bracket races were local. With this many entries a long day of racing was in store. When it takes six rounds just to get to the finals, that is a lot of drag racing.

Great track prep brought the wheels up at the starting line for many racers, even some who don’t normally do so.  A 60′ time just a tad bit quicker speaks volumes about the starting line prep. Round after round after round of racing often leads us to the time of day when racing has to stop for awhile because of the sun blinding the racers on the starting line, but not this day as Mother Nature provided enough cloud cover in the right spot to finish the event before dark.

Car Club #3, Jr Dragsters #4 & High School Drags At Pacific Raceways

CC #3 - Jr. #4 - HS Drags 6-6-14 68206 June 2014 Kent, WA – This race date started a little early as the rained out High School Drags fell to this date. It began with a mandatory drivers meeting at the starting line.

Track officials and three very experienced racers explained to those who were here for the first time and to refresh those who raced last year on proper procedures to race on the strip. “SAFETY” First and foremost was put to the driver’s after introductions by drag strip manager Ed Garfield. Be safe in what you are about to attempt was stressed by all those who spoke, each with personal experience on what can happen when things go bad.

In layman’s terms the drag strip is two lanes with a center line and two containment walls on either side. Bad things can happen when you cross that line or hit those walls, both points made and stressed to the high school students. How to exit the track and who has the right of way when doing so explained by top end man and the first person to respond to an incident in that area, Jeremy Scrivner.

With all questions answered the students dispersed to their pit areas. With most high schools from around the area represented the time trials began. With the time trial ET slips in hand the students were helped in the staging lanes put together a good dial-in, what their car should run according to the slips.

Mix in now the Car Club and Jr. Dragsters doing their time trials thus giving the students cool down time and a chance to watch two very different types of races. Four wheels and run what you brought cars and when you count the” wheelie” bar wheels an occasionally a motorcycle in car club and the very structured and similar looking, other than logo’s Jr. Dragsters, 1/8 mi. for them and 1/4 for the CC.

Non-stop racing now as round after round went by. Come dusk and what had to be the highlight of the day was the “burn-out” contest for anyone who wished to enter with part of the proceeds going to charity.

Two minutes to burn rubber and make tire smoke. Good wind conditions made for a large gathering of spectators. There were many getting loud cheers for blown tires and covering themselves in smoke.

Images of all the action are now available – Get a photo of those first runs down the quarter mile today, click here to go to the album.

Motocross Practice At Pacific Raceways – June 4th, 2014

MX Practice 6-4-14 56504 June 2014 Kent, WA – You have to love mid-week practice on your bike, greatly enhanced by sunny weather. A dry track lightly moistened with a spray of water to control the dust makes for some fast and high flying action, and it is only practice.

Practice as you race is the way to learn your limits, a fine balance between on the edge and wiping out, not what you want to do at speed but something you have to endure to get to your limits. Come out for yourself and see non-stop action all over the track.
