Test-N-Tune At Pacific Raceways

Test and Tune 3-7-15 38907 Mar 2015 Kent, WA – With the Practice Tree Series in the rear view mirror it’s time to concentrate on the tree at the track. Bright sunshine greeted nearly 200 entries for the first Test-N-Tune of the 2015 dragstrip season.

Two weeks of prep work by Pacific’s crew brought the track out of its winter sleep and to the “grip” the racers have come to enjoy as the consistency of their work makes “tuning” the car a bit easier. Those that have improved and upgraded their rides got instant information on how the new and improved surface will work, thanks to that prep work. Consistency is a great source of pride to the workers. To see the Speed Factory crew jump for joy and high fiving after an out of the box pass tickling records, was a testament to the track crew’s hard work.

The first Swift Tool race is set for May 9th 2015.  The date will come quickly and the races welcome the chance to test on their quest for a class championship.

The next Test-N-Tune is March 14 & 15th – see you then.

4-Stroke Fall-Winter Series Race At Pacific Raceways

4-Stroke Fall-Winter Series Race 3-1-15 67401 Mar 2015 Kent, WA – You gotta love these late winter sunny days. Crisp and chilly in the early morning then just past mid-morning the short sleeves appear. Three classes and 30 race entries for the 4-stroke race today. Father’s and son’s and good friends push their four stroke motored karts around the PGP track for an hours practice then it’s race time. Once racing friendship goes out the window for pure competition, you want to win no matter who it is.

Lots of drivers means lots of pictures to choose from – over 800 this week! – click here to go to the album.

Three rounds of competition bring three places on the podium and here they are: World Formula had father over son Ken and Kevin Porter in that order. In the 206 Heavy class Christian Pederson went from a Ferrari last weekend to gain the top spot with Ricky Arnold second and Doug Huggler third. The 206 Light class saw Cole Franchini claim the top spot, second had Kevin Janders and A.J. Fugitt picking up third.

In a tribute to their friend Nick, Cole Franchini and Marshall Peterson ran a “Memorial Lap” at the end of the race session.

Rental Pro-Am & Pro League At Pacific Raceways

Rental Pro-Am and Pro League Race 2-28-15 32128 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – Bright sunshine greeted all the league racers this morning for the Pro and Pro/Am race. A total of 13 racers in the Pro class and 11 in the Pro/Am made for some great racing in both classes.

Having to look into the sun as opposed to being wrapped up in rain gear has to be a great comfort even though the glare can get you from time to time around the track. The other factor is back on the slicks instead of the rain tires, more grip ,more speed, better lap times all come to play in the dry track conditions.

Making the best of these conditions today was the following.

Pro/Am
1st. Garrett Foss

High Performance Sport Driving Day At Pacific Raceways

High Performance Sport Driving Day 2-21-15 72422 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – Driving into the paddock area this morning it was apparent that this day was going to be about fast cars. With a host of cars from Ferrari of Seattle’s trailer of red racers. Throw in a mix from Nissan, BMW, Audi, Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet with a Viper and a bunch of Porsche’s.

Planned for the weather or not it does bring out the dry track racers though not in any form a race day but very good for testing for the upcoming events you plan to enter. With extra instructors on hand to handle the amount of students that have come out to test the 2.25 mile track surface with their Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers and exotics.

Running in what seemed to be their own race a handful of 125cc shifter karts rounded out a full day of lapping the track. At times with the high priced iron on the track it could have fit going around the Daytona track for 24 hours.

You never know who or what may show up for a HPSDD but you can bet the better the weather the better the entries. Check Pacific’s web site for the next date and come on out. A special thanks to Curt for the Daytona picture.

With the great weather conditions photographer Jim Doyle took over 750 images for you to enjoy and make purchases – click here to go to the album.

Winter Practice Tree Series #5 At Pacific Raceways

Winter Practice Tree Series #5 2-21-15 04121 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – Race # 5 in the Winter Practice Tree Race Series sponsored by Pacific Raceways and The Sports Page brought over 40 entries over the five race series events. Growing bigger each year and gaining new entries even in the last race shows how the interest in the series has grown, quite a gain from the start in Pacific’s tower a few years ago.

Growing exponentially also is the payoff at the end. The Sports Page owners Joe and Kathy Mahony put up a trip for two to Vegas with a pair of tickets to an NHRA National event laid out by Pacific Raceways. Pretty good bet combined how they will be used by the winner.

Speaking of the winner, he used a streak that at one point had a bounty taped to his back to gain a lead that would be hard to overcome by second place. His winning streak at the tree came to an end just shy of the finals though this day, and the smile on his face said it all. Joined by family for the last event Larry Emil received his winnings from The Sports Page owners with plans already in the works on when to use them. Congratulations to Larry and all those who came to play and see you for the next event.  Spring is coming!!

4-Stroke Fall-Winter Series Race At Pacific Raceways

4-Stroke Series 2-15-15 35315 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – The series says Fall-Winter but this was definitely a Spring- like day. Sunshine with no rain in sight will put smiles on everyone’s faces and a little bit extra pep in the step and more importantly grip on the track surface.

No driver likes using the “rain” tires, just too slow as you have to counter the forces of nature you impose on it with the kart. Love those slicks and grip that makes them work. Parity, it’s a word used in the description of how evenly matched the racers are, this was very apparent in the racing today.

With a warning at the driver’s meeting that aggression toward any competitor like blocking, pushing or swerving will be penalized, it’s not bumper cars. This information translated into some great racing no matter the class.

The bottom line really is all about your skill as a driver and understanding how to use your position on the track to gain position. Here are the driver’s whose skill showed today.

Over 500 images are now available – click here to go to the photo album for the event.

High Performance Sport Driving Day – Feb 8th, 2015

High Perfomance Sport Driving Day 2-8-15 52708 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – With the weatherman saying no rain the drivers came out for laps around the 2.25 mile track at Pacific Raceways. Learning to drive in the rain here is important but the horsepower that is produced by today’s cars needs dry pavement to put it to use.

A combination of lapping cars and the sun dried the track on the correct line around the track – and it brought the speeds up as traction to apply that horsepower came around.  However rain tires were a must as the sun did not reach some spots around the circuit. It’s still winter but anytime spring like weather presents itself in the northwest people get out and do things to take advantage.

You have to feel for those folks on the east coast and all the snow they are getting keeping all but the hardiest indoors. Who knows what the weather will be like on the 21st of Feb. for the next HPSDD will be but I don’t think snow tires will be needed, see you then.

Rental Kart Endurance Race At Pacific Raceways

Rental Kart Endurance Race 2-7-15 40407 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – Drifting on water is the only way to describe the rental kart race today. Driving in the rain is hard enough with good tires made for the wet weather. Now take away the tread that give you the grip and go as fast as you can and negotiate a curve in either direction without spinning out. This was the challenge for today’s racers.

Carry too much speed into the corner and you could find the back end of your kart wanting to lead the way. Transferring what you feel in your butt to your right foot is where the learning to drive on slicks and wet weather come into play in a kart. PGP is open rain or shine so come on out and put it to a test driving in inclement weather.

Taking the top spot today Cem Aykan showed them how with Tamer Ozkaraoglu coming in second and Maurice Shawver rounding out the top three.

Winter Practice Tree Series #4 – Feb 7th, 2015

Winter Practice Tree Series #4 2-7-15 00707 Feb 2015 Kent, WA – When the practice tree series moved to The Sports Page the setup for the event has been the same thus far. Walking in tonight it was apparent right away that the setup had been changed. The sound of a live band hit you as you came thru the door. In all the past races this is a first.

Making this happen was the work of Jaysen Dickhoff with his very good friends “The Fabulous Johnsons” band. For Lynn, Manuel and Jeff this was their morning as they played the night before. Drinking a few cups of coffee drove away the night and it showed or I should say sounded well-polished, like a fast race car.

Running thru the rounds as the band took a break worked out well. Then while the ladder was being figured out the band played a few more songs and heckled Jaysen between them, something that old friends having fun will do.

Images of all the fun are now available – click here to go to the album.

See you for the last race Feb.21st and the crowning of the winner.
